Risk factors:
• 1/4 of those who have type 2 diabetes don't even know they have it

• More prevalent in certain races, such as black, American Indian, Asian American, Pacific Islander or Hispanic.
• High blood pressure
• Abnormal cholesterol
• Exercising infrequently — less than three times a week.
Prevention:

• Even if you have diabetes in your family, diet and exercise can help you prevent the disease.
Management:
• Prediabetic: lifestyle changes can slow or halt the progression from prediabetes to diabetes.
• If you've already been diagnosed with diabetes, healthy lifestyle choices can help you prevent potentially serious complications (heart disease, blindness, etc)

Lifestyle changes:
• Eat foods low in fat and calories. Focus on fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
